Signs of siding damage.
Small problems spread once water gets behind the wall.
Siding is the outer layer that keeps rain off the house wrap and sheathing underneath. Once a panel cracks or pulls loose, water can get behind it, and the damage you can’t see, like soaked sheathing, rot and mold, is usually worse than the damage you can.
- Cracked, chipped or holed panels after hail
- Loose, missing or flapping pieces after wind
- Warped, buckled or bulging panels
- Gaps at corners, windows and doors
- Peeling paint or water stains on the walls inside
- Soft spots or mold behind the siding

Vinyl or fiber cement.
Vinyl siding
Vinyl is the most widely used siding on homes. It doesn’t need painting, comes in many colors and profiles, and single panels can often be replaced. It can crack from hard impacts, especially in very cold weather.
Fiber cement siding
Fiber cement is a heavier board made from cement and wood fibers. It resists impact, fire and rot and can look like painted wood. It costs more and takes longer to install, and it needs repainting over the years unless it comes factory-finished.
We install both, and we can help you compare them for your home and budget.
Repair or full replacement.
A few damaged panels can usually be replaced on their own, as long as the siding around them is sound and a reasonable match can be found. When damage runs across whole walls, water has already gotten behind the siding, or the old siding is faded and brittle everywhere, replacing it is usually the better use of money.
A replacement is also the time to fix what is underneath. Once the old siding is off, damaged sheathing or missing house wrap can be seen and dealt with before the new siding goes on. When the job is done, we clean up the site.
Storm-damaged siding and insurance.
Hail and wind damage siding as often as roofs, and it is easy to miss from the ground. If a storm hit your roof, have the siding looked at too: it is often part of the same claim. We help with your claim, and your insurance company decides what the policy covers. How storm damage help works.

Siding questions.
Can you match my existing siding?
When only a few panels are damaged, we look for the closest match. Older siding can be hard to match exactly because colors fade and profiles get discontinued, and we will tell you if a good match isn’t possible so you can decide whether to replace a whole wall.
Does insurance cover storm-damaged siding?
If hail or wind damaged it, your policy may cover the repair or replacement, minus your deductible. Siding is often part of the same claim as the roof. Your insurer makes the decision based on your policy, and we help with your claim along the way.
Which needs less upkeep, vinyl or fiber cement?
Vinyl needs the least: no painting, just an occasional wash. Fiber cement needs repainting every so often unless it is factory-finished, but it is tougher against impact and fire.
Can siding be replaced in winter?
Usually, yes. Vinyl gets more brittle in deep cold, so the coldest days are planned around. Damaged siding should not wait for spring, because water behind it causes rot and mold.
Should I replace my siding and roof at the same time?
If both were damaged in the same storm or both are near the end of their life, doing them together can save time and keep one insurance claim simple. If only one needs work, there is no reason to do both.
